F*$ckin’… Nerd alert, incoming!
GTA5, along side being one of the best games, no…entertainment titles ever, thus far in history, also hides a golden bit of functionality for all of media Nerd-kind. A ‘director mode’ that could be recorded, and then cameras placed afterwards. Adz, having been a director in a previous incarnation, got us messing about with it one evening to see how it worked by doing silly things in director mode then playing with the cameras to see what it could achieve. Turns out…a fair bit.
So with old Machinima titles flooding his brain He poses the question “Shall we write and film something?”. We don’t often say no around here when it comes to daft ideas, so it was set…but what?
I stated if we’re to do it then lets do a proper story with a character introduction, a jeapordy set-up, a set action-piece, and a resolution. It was also not to be a rom-com. In agreement, we discussed initial ideas of stories, characters and how we should voice them, locations that might look good to use from within the game, etc. Whilst driven, we’re also pretty lazy, and concluded that writing a voice script seemed like alot of work when really we were both just amped about what it might look like, with the camera control on offer in geek -mode.
It needed to tell a story well enough with no dialogue. Easy – write it as a music video for one of the tracks on 21 Minutes of Fuel – ‘Call Me A Hospital’ was the no-brainer. Shortest, innit – like I said, pretty lazy.
There was always going to be a car chase though… its GTA, for fucks sake.
It took 2 grown men waaaaay to long, but it looks like this.
